Genre Sn "Kunstgattung" erw. fach. (18. Jh.) Entlehnung. Entlehnt aus frz. genre "Geschlecht, Art", dieses aus l. genus (generis), s. Genus (formal aus den Kasusformen oder dem Plural). Als Fachwort der Kunsttheorie bezeichnet das Wort einen künstlerischen Stil u. dgl., sowie charakteristische Szenen aus einem bestimmten Milieu (Genrebild usw.).
